Her mind was in a whirlwind as she stared up at the starry night sky of Kai; this week had been a whirlwind of massive change in her life. She had met Kabuto, her savior; she had regained her ability to speak thanks to him; and she had joined his organization, known as Snake, to repay him. She was still trying to wrap her head around everything that had happened; she was part of a group that she barely even knew, but she knew Kabuto would protect her. Even if it were only for his own ends-
A sound from behind the pair caught their attention. Bloom was up before Laura was, the plant creature using his natural floating ability to get up quickly. When Laura sensed fear through their connection, she grew very worried; Bloom was almost never afraid. What would have caused him to feel that way?
She got her answer as she turned around.
Bloom's Vine Whip attack came out, forcing Laura down so that the floating blade missed her head. Laura turned to observe the floating weapon, locking onto the one unblinking eye that lay in the middle of the hilt. She was getting strange vibes from it, similar to what she got from animals and monsters; perhaps the Sarcophagus Cliffs' legendary soul-draining sword wasn't a spirit at all, but a monster? If so, the poor thing must be incredibly lonely. Everybody was demonizing it; no normal person would come anywhere near these cliffs for fear of it. It was all alone. Just like she had been.
Laura stood up slowly, never leaving eye contact with the sentient sword. She felt a wave of alarm from Bloom, but she counteracted with a wave of reassurance; she wasn't going to die until she was reunited with Jia and had avenged Vion, so he didn't have to worry. Bloom backed away, still a bit nervous; Laura simply focused on the blade before her, tapping into her natural animal empathy as much as she knew how to in order to reach the blade. The monster sped towards her again...
...And stopped, not even an inch from the blue-haired girl's nose.
Laura smiled, reaching out to caress the sword as she felt a massive wave of relief from Bloom. "Don't worry," she said to the sword, "I won't hurt you. Not like the other humans, or even the monsters." She felt a twinge of relief from the blade; it was faint, but the connection had been forged. The sword slowly moved, placing its blade in the sheath that was held in its scarf; Laura smiled genuinely, glad that they wouldn't fight anymore. "Do you want to come with us?" She asked the sentient blade softly. "You won't be alone anymore." The response was faint, but the message was clear: Yes.
Laura reached out and embraced the floating sword. "Thank you," she muttered. "Now I have another friend." She felt the same emotions flowing from Bloom and the blade, and was happy.
