Errand Boys (Alexei's Job)

Alexei sighed as he entered the plaza of Ninja Town, his eyes scanning the surroundings. He had expected his triumphant return job to be a bit more...spectacular, he guessed. Yet here he was, searching for a book. Not an enchanted book, not cursed either; just a regular old book. This Mundo fellow had better be paying a high price for the damn thing.

Further tainting the God of Chaos' mood was the fact that he hadn't been able to contact his friends at all. Malm was god knows where doing god knows what, and Bea was the same; he hadn't even seen the little deaf girl and her Kaseki-like tree partner. He felt like he was isolated, and while that wouldn't normally bother him, he had recently discovered the value of friends; as such, not having them right now felt like he was regressing. It was an awful feeling, to say the least. At the very least, though, he would do this job. Alexei returned to scanning the plaza, looking for any hint of the book the doctor had lost.

As Alexei continued to walk through the plaza, a particular ramen shop caught his eye. Dr. Mundo had mentioned something about having a bowl of ramen in the square earlier; perhaps he had left the book there? That would make this mission fairly easy. Of course, Alexei was hungry too; a bowl of noodles wasn't his favorite food, but it would certainly do the trick. Alexei changed course, heading towards the stall.

As he reached the entrance, the God of Chaos took a moment to observe the place. It had an aesthetic common to Ninja Town, with red lanterns hanging on the sides and several pieces of cloth serving as an overhang. The words "Ichiraku Ramen" were blazed across the strips of cloth, probably the place's name. It seemed fairly popular; most of the seats were taken, even though it was the awkward space between lunch and dinnertime. That meant it was probably decent; Alexei would find the food edible, at least.

As Alexei entered the stall, the thick smell of ramen pierced his nostrils. He took a deep whiff, feeling the powerful aroma enter his body and relax him. Ramen wasn't the best food, but it was certainly one of the best smelling; the spices used were perfect for loosening up a tensed body. Alexei could feel his gripes melting away. The God of Freedom took a seat at the counter, watching the chef at work.

Within a few minutes, a woman spoke to him. "Welcome to Ichiraku! What would you like to order?"
"Whatever your standard ramen is," Alexei responded calmly. "You're free to cook it however you want." Alexei always said that when ordering food; it usually led to a surprise of some sort, which he enjoyed.
"Got it! One Ichiraku Special, coming right up!" The woman quickly jotted down some shorthand before handing the sheet to the chef and moving to talk to another customer.

After a while, the ramen was placed on the counter in front of Alexei. It seemed normal enough; the noodles and other ingredients looked good, and the smell of the broth was excellent. The white-haired man gingerly picked up a pair of chopsticks and grabbed a bunch of noodles. He took a bite, half-expecting to dislike it, but he was instead pleasantly surprised: The noodles were delicious! A quick check confirmed that the vegetable and meat in the bowl was wonderful as well; they retained their own unique flavor while still mixing in the spicy broth. Simply put, it was the best ramen he had ever tasted. The ramen disappeared almost instantly, the broth and other ingredients following soon after; Alexei simply couldn't get enough of the stuff.

The God of Freedom left the payment there and stood up to leave, only to notice a thick, leather-bound book out of the corner of his eye on a vacant table. Alexei quickly confirmed it: This was the book that Dr. Mundo was looking for. Talk about killing two birds with one stone. Alexei scooped up the book and left the stall, smiling.

Within fifteen minutes, Alexei once again stood at the entrance to Dr. Mundo's house. The ramen had cleared up his bad mood considerably; he'd have to remember that place when he was feeling down. Ichiraku Ramen; the taste of the noodles was by far in Alexei's top five favorite meals. He wondered if Kaseki knew about it? It seemed like a decently popular place, and Kaseki probably knew everything going on in this world, so he probably did, but Alexei wasn't sure. Either way, he knew where he was taking his friends next time he was in town.

Still, the God of Chaos didn't feel like talking to the doctor right now; he felt like talking to the doctor would bring his mood down again. Instead, Alexei left the book on the doorstep, along with an address to send the reward to. Alexei then left, heading towards Fiore; with any luck, he would find Malm or Bea there, and he wouldn't be so lonely anymore.
