Why do you think you deserve this sword?:
As a character, Sly is an individual who commonly felt he was a bit misplaced, after finding himself within the world of Pandora. Therefore he found himself finding things to grip on that fit his natural theme, or at least anything that would define his character. One of these said themes was his keen interest in clockwork or steampunk gear. In terms of his alignment, Sly does not bend to either the light or the dark, but rather to his own ideals and what he believes to be the 'right thing'. In a sense, this could also be taken as walking down the 'path of light', as he would never agree to doing harm to the innocent. Putting these two together would make Gear Breaker seemingly be the keyblade of choice as it also fit his theme.
Sly had a history of hunting individuals or beasts that had fallen to darkness, although the type of darkness he cleansed was not a typical one, for he believed the concepts of good and evil are just a matter or perspective. Instead, the type of darkness he had banished, and still hunts to this day, is one that steps beyond ethics and humanity. An example of this includes those who hurt the innocent regardless of their ends, and those with the cruel heart to put an embargo on resources to the needy. These usually include typical villains and evil overlords that he heard and read, but it would solely depend on their intentions. And hence why he may need a keyblade to banish them.
The world of Pandora, at least to Sly, is almost no different to any worlds he had set foot on, if he overlooked the landscape and the creatures that walked upon the lands. But he believed every man and woman exist for a reason, to bring change for tomorrow. Either good or bad. He did not want everlasting peace, for war is needed to bring peace. He did not want an end to poverty, for it is within man's nature to be greedy. And he did not want to end all pain and suffering, for it was the lessons they teach that make them human. Instead, what Sly would want to do is to see his dreams come into fruition. An ideal and exotic world where man can co-exist with those that they had once extinguished, like those of dragons or native civilisations. A world where no knowledge would ever be lost to time, and a world where even those at the pinnacle of their grief can smile to a new day.
What would you do with this weapon?:
Sly will see to it that, with the assistance of Gear Breaker, his dreams would come true, no matter how far he must run or how many enemies he had to strike down. Despite this, he would hope he never have to rely on its power, as all swordsmen should know those who rely too much on their weapon's power over their own skills do not deserve to wield it. However, Sly would consider using it if those he faces were either spawns of the 'darkness' or are dark-hearted, initially as a warning to them before perhaps using the keyblade to only deal the finishing blow.
The theme of the keyblade matches that of Sly's overall theme of his weapons (clockwork) in addition to it being an ideal weapon for Sly to cast any weapon-dependent spells he would have. It's defensive properties, although very specific to his city of origin, would still function to cement his status as a bounty hunter to mages who had fallen to darkness. All in all, Sly would use the keyblade to bring about the change he desired, and what better way to start than to purge the world from the black hearted?
