    “Dragons? Bull crap.”

The hands that were once folded to support the head of the speaking figure as he laid on his back on the low hillside, one of them reached out for the flyer that another figure, a female had brought near the male’s face. The two were kids. Probably in their 4 to 5 years old. “But Red..” The female addressed the child male by the name, her face seriously showing belief over whatever the flyer had shown those two. “More than 10 people had seen the same thing! Dragons, I mean!”

“So..??” Red rose, sitting down still with his body upright. “Ahaha Vale, would you believe it,” Red chuckled, looking at the girl whose name was Valerie; Vale for short. “If there were ten people that admitted into seeing not a dragon, but a young girl named Valerie, clad in nothing, in a warm bath?” A smack came a second after, the girl blushing a bit as she puffed her cheeks. There was traces of annoyance and a bit of frustration in her face.

“There won’t be any ten. The only one who’ve seen such was you.” Again, Red chuckled at the comment the girl brought up, his hands supporting his weight as he leaned against them. “Pervert.” The girl murmured, still audible for the white haired little boy. “Come on,” He smiled, “I mean, like, you don’t even have what those grown up good looking women have on their bodies.” Another smack landed on his head, still showing signs of joke. “Gahaha!” Red laughed at her reaction; it was how they spend their times together anyway. Making rude, sometimes perverse comments about one’s body, which normally would always have Vale being the victim.

“Anyway, back to the dragon.” Valerie coughed once in an attempt to change both the topic and the mood. “It’s bull crap, I tell ya.” Red looked over the flyer again, which was still in his left hand. “You should not be busy stuffing your head with these kinds of stuffs.” He patted her on the head gently, giving off a warm smile. “Grow up to be a fine woman, and then marry me-“ Wham! Another smack, this time a bit stronger than the last two, hit him right on the face.

“Don’t pull that card.” Valerie looked at the boy as he fell straight on his back, the force pushing him on the ground. The two looked at each other for a while, which then broke into a laugh.

“What’ll you do if you see the dragon, or even,” Valerie talked while having this utterly interested face in her, “Face it eye to eye!?” Red waved his hand with the flyer, trying to disperse off of her interest. “You kidding…” He looked at her back, his eyes half closed, showing a bit to none interest.

“..I’ll probably face up against it.”

“N-no way…” His body shook, knees trembling in fear. There it was. Right in front of him. The great creature that sends down fear with the shadow it casts as it flew above. The wings that fluttered gallantly as it overpowered the skies with its sole appearance. The jaws that clench, the fangs that gritted, the claws that crushes those it took hold with just by sheer force. The fierce slit shaped eyes that struck fear into those it penetrates into.

There was a log in his hands. The little child’s hands. What could it possibly do against such a mighty looking scaly creature that seemed to be a colossal great reptile in front of him? But then again, Red’s act of bravery, but mostly idiocy was one to compliment; he still had his grounds, albeit shaking so intensely in fear. There were bodies around him. The bodies of the villagers that once lived together with him. That once said hello to him whenever they see him running around. That would once chase him to the edge of the village for stealing a loaf of bread he couldn’t even afford to buy. There were both good and bad memories he had with the villagers. But still.. to be wiped out by just a mighty spine chilling roar.. those who could stand still after that one strike was indeed, a strong human. But then again, the only one who was able to do so was Red, and Red alone. Even the village’s strongest mages couldn’t stand against it. No, not against it. Against that one roar itself.

“I will probably face up against it.”

The words struck him. Red remembered what he had said to Valerie a few days ago. Luckily, the girl was sent away by her family to study abroad in order to learn and grow to be a fine, noble woman her parents would always wanted her to be. But will she be okay when she learns about this? Will she be able to accept this? Will she even be able to face anything in the world anymore?

Right then, the urge to strike the fierce, scaly dragon became stronger in him. He wanted to hit it. It didn’t matter, even one hit was enough. And so he did.

The boy charged relentlessly towards the dragon, holding the log firmly by the hand. The dragon had its wings folded to its back, the creature standing on all fours. “Graaah!!!” A war cry echoed the skies, the little boy swinging his log at the creature’s claws. It did nothing but watched, a slight amusement in its eyes.

A slow thud could be heard, the log breaking in two. It did nothing, not a scratch whatsoever on the dragon. It did nothing to retaliate. The dragon kept its eyes on him, not doing anything despite the boy foolishly approaching him like he didn’t know death.

Red backed away in his own accord, fearing the results of his blind, foolish charge. The Dragon looked at the boy, a slight curve forming at its scaly lips upwards. Its huge, tremendous wings spread, taking it up in the sky with one strong flap, which flung the boy a few feet without him even able to stand the force for even a second. The boy landed on a tree, the pain stinging his back as he laid on his chest on the ground flat after the smack. “G-gah..” grunts of pain escaped his lips, little blood flowing down his chin from his mouth. He could do nothing. Nothing at all.

A new urge came. And such was the urge to escape. His legs got themselves a new strength out of the blue, the little boy suddenly able to get on his two legs, despite the hit earlier. And so he did.

The moment he could get his body up, Red ran straight into the woods, trying to make his way to the Kingdom as he rushed between trees and bushes. All the thorns, all the vines, all the whips making scratches and bleedings also bruises on him didn’t matter anymore. The boy kept true with his pace, running as fast as he could, despite all the things hurting him. And then there it was. The dragon. It was following him.

The shadow casted over him was huge. Red looked up, only to be caught up by the huge reptile. He fell on his butt as he looked at it, fearing it the most by the moment. The dragon looked at the little boy for a few, before ascending a few meters up to the sky more.

It then pulled its head backwards, as yellow auras start glowing in between its teeth. Crackles of lightning formed from its mouth, to which Red realized; it was charging the same roar. But this time it wasn’t the roar that was intended to destroy everything with just sheer voice. This time, it had a beam or some sort.

And so it went. The dragon roared, aiming right on the boy where he stood. Freezing in fear, Red could not do anything. Anything but pray. The light beam wave hit him, as lightning struck here and there nearby the small explosion that covered a few meters around him. The scenery turned white, as in the light became too blinding for the poor little boy.

Red woke up, his eyes opening as fast. He sat up straight, leaving the hay that was acting as his cushion as he took a nap. It was gone. No, HE was gone. “Dammit.. You ran off.” Akzagravia, or so the Dragon’s name was, disappeared from his sight. He was 8 by then. It was expected of the Lightning dragon, but was still too sudden.

Red put one hand on his face, covering his face as he relaxed himself from the dream earlier. Akzagravia disappeared, just like he said he would one day be before he took him in as his adopted child. And with Red, he left him a magic, a one of a kind magic, namely the Dragon Slayer magic.

Here’s what happened after the blast, and a few telling about how the man's and the young woman's lives went on!

After the blast, it proved to be harmless. Akzagravia had his own intention for firing the harmless beam at Red, who fainted in shock rather than dying in fear. He took him away from all the humans, and taught him things. There was something in him that the dragon saw that made him worthy enough to be taught such a rare and devastating magic.

Valerie learned of the village’s destruction a few days after, and upon learning that there was supposedly no survivors, she gave up hope to return to her now no more village. She stayed in Fiore, learning and growing up just like how her parents wanted her to be; fine and educated. Things worked well for her gradually, after the years of sorrow she had been put through. Although she could by then live out her life as content despite the huge loss, deep inside her, the lady was hoping that somehow, just somehow, Red survived the attack and was doing well. Just somehow.

After Akzagravia disappeared, Red leaned his behaviour more to the negative side. Since living off on his own, his thieving hobby became too often that it one day became a need to survive for the young man. His behaviour was that of a rowdy, carefree bandit, and his prowess was, well, most of the time, wasted on childish pranks and such. Rarely does he gets into battles. Very rarely. He wasn’t hoping for his dragon to still be alive somewhere, or hoping to even be able to meet him again one day. Not even the thought of seeing Valerie one day was there in him. He’d forgotten all that by the time he grew up.

    Probably.
