Mostly to achieve ascension in his capabilities and taking a completely neutral guild like this fit mostly with his ideals. Sly had almost little regards for what is considered 'good' and 'evil' since both were just a matter of perspective, and neither would he have much interest in fighting wars for others when all he really needed to target was one man. However, one of the things he believed in was justice, and hence, would side with a guild that would at least believe in improving the strength of their own individual users, in addition to letting their members fight in whatever they believe in.
