It was nearing midnight in the city of Gotham and streets were already beginning to show the crowds beginning to thin. Not many people had opted to cruise the city by night and the freedom fighter did not blame them. Crime was definitely at an all-time high yet, for some reason, she had never felt safer. Perhaps it was flow of her newfound power stirring through her yet the Phoenix though differently. ”You are growing weaker, girl.” The Phoenix hummed from the depths of her consciousness, ”It is about time you took your responsibilities seriously.” The woman simply closed her eyes and shrugged for she had decided to spend the night enjoying the city while also ignoring the Phoenix all night long. Having sensed her rebellious nature, the Phoenix huffed  before disappearing once more.

This allowed the fighter a few more moments of peace before resuming her duties come dawn. Deciding to take advantage of the moment, she opted to patrol around the city in order to gather intel before heading over to her happy place. If anything, gathering intel was simply an excuse to keep the Phoenix happy. She, on the other hand, hoped for small moments in which she could experience the freedom to do what she wanted,.Even if it were under the pretense of her “Master’s” duties. …Master.. The idea of it caused a look of disgust to sweep across her face. She hated the idea yet, there she was, following orders like a dog. Having no freedom to pursue her own desires nor being able to keep her thoughts to herself was something the fighter loathed. Yet, what could she do now that the contract was set.

She had already accepted it as the path Fate had bestowed upon her and, to that, she could do nothing more. She had not asked for it but the path the freedom fighter had chosen was by her own accord. It had been an answer to her prayers even if it wasn’t the ideal choice. Still, she could not bring herself to regret it. After all, her decision had saved the world she loved and, by becoming the Phoenix’s host, she was able to save countless more. She never felt any glory by it but she did feel comfort and peace knowing that she was able to stop the Phoenix from running rampant. If anything, the fact that she had chosen this path gave her the strength to keep on going despite the weight she felt at every waking moment.

Perhaps her life truly was meant to be chained and dragged down despite her entire being screaming at her to break free. Yet, unlike the namesake she had donned, she herself could never be free. Not as long as the being that she housed continued to crave power, chaos, and so much more. All in all, perhaps this was why she had chosen to be consumed by the being and serve as its host. Still, some could say it was inevitable but she had hope. Even if she could never be free to pursue and act upon the desire to escape. Yet, for some reason, she truly believed that there was an important piece of information calling out to her.

Although the feeling was not always there, she could feel the tiniest of tugs in her memories whenever she walked through a place that felt eerily familiar or heard a phrase that would trigger a reaction. It called out to her to remember. Yet, no matter how tempted she was to explore this fleeting sensation, the Phoenix would always pay her a call. Today, would be no different. ”Pay it no mind…” A voice lulled almost as if it were the tiniest of whispers washing slowly into her mind. It was a sensations that could be describes almost as if it were a call to the edges of her consciousness. More of a feathery kiss so to speak. ”What you have lost is no longer of importance.”

The Freedom Fighter closed her eyes in order to appreciate the warm sensation the more than familiar voice brought her. Tingles ran up her spine as the voice slowly succumbed into the edges of her mind, coupling soon after with the numbing sensation of the incoming wind of Gotham City. “Is it because I died?” A soft chucking ticked the edges of her consciousness. ”No, child. It is because you were reborn to be something greater.” With that, the voice seemed to slither away almost as if had never existed in the first place. It signaled that the Phoenix was done talking causing slight irritation to creep in. Still, all the woman could do was sigh and let it go. After all, it was always the same thing and she had grown tired.

Stretching her arms high up into the air, she worked her muscles before flying into the night sky of the bustling streets of Gotham. Her feet barely made a sound as she sped through the rooftops of the unsuspecting inhabitants as her hair flowed with the wind. This had become a custom for her and, by now, her feet knew the way. It was not long thereafter that the freedom fighter stopped right in front of a cathedral. It was where she went to every night without fail. She never went inside yet seeing it brought her a sense of calm and peace. Gingerly taking a seat atop of the roof’s ledge, she let out a heavy sigh as she watched the church’s member come and go. Her guard down and body at rest, she felt as if she could be there forever. Little did she know, though, that a visitor would soon make an appearance.[/i]

    Aknaid

    [ Demon _ of  _Time ]

A dog's loyalty, was always the golden standard for any subordinate. Though, in the cases of few, to pledge loyalty to a dog, was the greatest act anyone could have taken. A dog cared and raised by the guardian of Pandora, Kaseki himself, passed on to one of his offspring to not only guide, but teach them. The being with a soul that could house any empty vessel, excluding their sibling, who was an empty vessel that could house any soul that was not his kin. Fetus, a strange name for a puppy, but was the one of the great canine warrior. A creature, many refused to acknowledge as their leader, but had saved Pandora with his paws alone.

It was strange, to be born from a lineage of betrayal. His own heritage based on a ritualistic murder of their mentor, master, or ancestor. To die at the hands of their students, pupils, and next of kin. Was this the concern his father held over the heads of his children? To wonder which was going to take his life, or which would kill the other? It was unlike the tale of Cain and Abel, but one that ended in death, and with it, honor. Was this the reason he grew distant? To change his role as a teacher, to end the fate of his family? Or was it just the way his heart was, unknown to the blood that pumped through it?

Was that the reason he created life?

No. it was for other reason he did not dare have an interest in uncovering. Whatever artificial being it was trying to create, for whatever purpose, was not for evil. It was a world full of Starfalls, reborn spirits, demons and the like. If he needed a soul for evil, he would have taken one. But still, Aknaid could find no reason why his own father would seek to create a life in his own home. A woman. An angel. Perhaps to replicate the power of a starfall. Who was to say. All he knew was he liberated her from Kaseki's grasp, and her father knew her location, but never went to retrieve her. Perhaps she was a gift to his only son. He could only guess.

But it was from his heart, he loved her, and from their bond, a child whose body was not tethered to this realm. A child whose heart was so pure, he had wished for a world where all of his family, from all points of time could exist. His name, Ramen, his father, a demon lost in time, and his mother an experimented angel. It was from his son, his granddaughter Yuna was born, and to a time that not either of them would see. A girl lost to time and space, just like his father, like himself, like his son, and like his granddaughter. It was their heritage. To have time lost to their lives. To betray their blood. Perhaps, there was no escaping his linage.

A heavy sigh escaped his lips from behind the helm that covered his frail looking appearance. Even in a world where giant spiders was common, he feared his appearance was still too freaky. A cloak, worn and tattered covered his armor as he left the holy building. He wasn't religious, not by any means. It was hard to believe in a great god, when several frequented his father's estate. To think a great messiah died for mortal's sins, was to acknowledge that a god of death adored cheese  and annoying his own father.

He was more content seeing these gods as people, than anything greater than a mortal.

It was a soothing time for her and yet, as the last of the congregation members began to emerge, Bea’s eyes suddenly flashed a bright crimson red. This had become the recurring signal she had come to loathe as it mean that the Phoenix was active and attempting to take control. Mind you, it wasn’t the fact that it seeked control that irked her but, rather, the refusal to give a heads up pissed her off. To this, the freedom fighter bit her lip in frustration as she batted the looming consciousness away. There was no way she was going to willingly let the Phoenix take control. If it needed to do something, then it would need to ask. After all, it was still her body regardless of the contract. The Phoenix was simply borrowing it as a vessel and nothing more. If anything, it could screw itself over for all she cared. Yet, so long as it asked, she could consider it and do what she needed to do from there.

Much to her surprise, though, the Phoenix seemed to be complacent with her stubbornness as it stirred within her mind preparing to speak. It did not mean it would ask her kindly nor would it appeal to her defiant nature. Instead, it spoke to her in the way it knew best - definite and resolute. A command so to speak. ”Leave NOW.” To this, Bea’s eyes narrowed. It was clear she did not like being told what to do, but this order had her intrigued. It wasn’t like the others in which the Phoenix was confident and sure. For, in this one, hints of uncertainty, distress, and irritation were laced within its words. It seemed as if fear had sprung almost as if it were hoping to linger deep into the shadows yet failing to execute itself properly. Yet, as to why the Phoenix was acting up more than usual was beyond her. One thing she knew, though, was that this was one order that she could care less about following.

The being seemed to grab a sense of what the freedom fighter was feeling for it led to it making threats. ”I forbid you to come back to this wretched place,” it growled in an attempt to squash her stubbornness. ”Un-” Bea willed the consciousness out or, in other words, shut it up. ”What for?” The freedom fighter spoke icily back. ”This is my day and I’m not leaving.” At this, a burning sensation suddenly coursed through her veins causing the woman to wince. It was clear that the being was getting desperate. ”You will do as I say,” the Phoenix growled from within. ”Or I will make sure that you regret this.” Bea scoffed sarcastically. Now she reeeeeally did not want to leave. ”What’s a few more years?” Bea shrugged back, ”It’s not like my contract is ending soon anyways.”

She could feel the fury of the Phoenix beginning to grow but she didn’t care. The being had never had a problem with her nightly routine before so what had changed? If there was something that the Phoenix had wanted to avoid her finding, then she would do whatever was in her power to find it. Therefore, the woman stood up, stretched, and prepared to make her way to the entrance of the cathedral. Yet, just before she had begun her descent, another wave of pain rushed through her. Still, the woman was not deterred. ”Do whatever you’d like but I’m not leaving,” Bea growled through clenched teeth. With this, she began her journey downwards. Making her way down the rooftops, she would direct her path towards the entrance of the cathedral. What she would find there, she wouldn’t know. Thus, finally reaching the ground, her gaze would take in the looming cathedral. All she knew was that this was a chance to uncover something to fight back and find it she would.

Pandora. A world sealed off from the rest of the mortal realms. A place, once opened, seemed to give you everything you could want, along with a few misfortunes. A fitting name for someone with the mind of a child. It was as if it was thought out, and simply not just a name be pulled out of a hat. Though, for him, it was almost quite literally pulled from a hat. It was always strange to him, to see his father both as his own parent, but as a child. But that was the oddities of this world. Time and age did not equal wisdom. Time did not equal age. And skill was not power. Nothing seemed to directly relate to anything that the mortal world would have. Pandora operated of its own set of rules.

His left hand crossed over his chest to hold his right wrist. Pains. Echoes of an injury unknown. Was it from the past, the future? Was it age? Was it an ailment? Perhaps it was best to have it looked at, but the only people who held enough knowledge to operate on him was either his father, or his sibling. Time had passed. The Agency fell, at at their own hand. The Legion no longer had a foe to fight, at least, not one worth worrying about. Though, having both Nameless, and Fetus themselves join the ranks of the Legion was a surprise to him. Was it time to trust him? Her? What was she supposed to call them? Was it rude to be wrong to someone who changed bodies so frequent? Was it rude as someone without a soul?

But it was then something caught his eye, that or the strange feeling that brushed over him. People passed him from either side, his right hand reached to his side. Though, his palm was open, as if he was holding some sort of ghost of a war hammer with it's head on the ground, though, nothing was there. His left hand reached up to his shoulder across his chest. Something was coming. But what? From where?

"I've got a bad feeling about this." he thought to himself. But what could go wrong?

As the freedom fighter descended from the rooftops, Bea couldn’t help but second guess her decision to ignore the Phoenix’s order. It wasn’t due to fear of what the being could do to her that caused her to double-guess herself but, rather, it was the fact that the Phoenix had never caused her direct harm that felt so off-putting about her decision. In other words, the Phoenix had never told her to do something that would cause her ill will. So, if it was telling her to leave, then, perhaps, wouldn't it be the right thing to do? After all, the Phoenix almost always knew best. Almost. At this realization, the fighter paused for a few moments before taking a deep breath. There was no denying that uncertainty was beginning to creep in but, if there was one thing she knew about herself, it was that she wasn’t a coward. For, regardless of whatever it was that was waiting for her, she would overcome it. She always did. ...Right?

Her feet now planted on the ground, the woman decided to lurk within the shadows. Her mind whirled with countless possibilities but none seemed to be the ‘right’ one. Was it something that the Phoenix had deemed dangerous? Or, perhaps, this was something that the Phoenix had a fear towards. If the latter, what could it possibly be? Bea pursed her lips anxiously. She still had time to turn around and leave but would she regret it? After all, she knew that her curious nature would never let her leave these thoughts alone. So, should she just take a step and get it over with? She did have the power to protect herself so what had she to loose? With that thought, she decided to emerge from the shadows and take a step towards the cathedral. Whatever it was that the Phoenix had been uneasy about, all probabilities laid between it being on the inside or out. Chances were that it had been a person.

With a newfound determination, Bea walked across the street towards the looming building. Her steps were taken slowly with as much confidence that she could muster along with shrouded uncertainty. She walked focused yet unsure of what to look for as her eyes scanned the crowds both exiting and entering the building. Who was it? Or, perhaps, what was it? After all, the land she now found herself was so full of mystery that she wouldn’t be surprised if someone was carrying a doomsday device as if it were nothing more than a purse. With a sigh, she proceeded further until, finally, she felt a heavy cloud engulfing her. A cold shiver ran down her spine yet, despite the heaviness she felt, she felt a sort of calm as well. Almost as there was something familiar about what she felt. With her eyes now desperately looking for its source, they soon landed on a cloaked figure who she had managed to walk past just moments prior.

Once she had turned around and trained her eyes at the cloaked figure, her eyes immediately flashed crimson as the the Phoenix tried to take control once more. ”LEAVE!” It cried out before Bea thrust it away. The reaction that the Phoenix gave was all she needed to know before finally approaching the figure gingerly from behind. She had no idea who he or she was nor was she eager to find out. Yet, the freedom fighter could not shake the feeling that the familiarity she felt from the cloaked being was there. Sure, she could not see the person's face but she felt a as if they had met before. It was impossible that they had but, for some reason, just thinking about it made her head hurt. Therefore, taking in a big sigh, she paused before speaking out loud to the figure. ”Hello?” she would say cautiously as she slowly approached him. ”Do I… Do I know you? She asked as her head tilted to the side in curiosity.

Perhaps the hardest thing to come to terms with, was knowing not that his father had his childhood robbed from him, but that his own body housed two souls. He never thought it any different than his absorption of weaker souls. But to watch each side of him manifest into completely different creatures . . . it was more than a personality trait, or a disorder depending on who you talked to. He was two people., confined to a single person. The one in charge of order and chaos, was full of mayhem within his own body. Was that the reason he hid himself away? Was that the reason he sought others to watch his offspring? Was it not the duty of a father to guide his children? Who was he to say, it wasn't like he had guided Ramen his whole life. Such a strange person, bound to the same strange laws of life as his grandfather.

But then the figure descended. Some took note, even few manage to acknowledge her presence. She came from above, but from where, and for why? Was she watching? Waiting perhaps? Or was she just another wandering soul in this cursed realm trying to find a purpose. No, she was familiar, though he could not put a finger on why.

She moved, she stepped, and with it, he watched her draw near. But was it to him, or the palace? He took a few steps to his left, making way for the woman to pass if she chose to. But if she came to meet with him, what was he supposed to do? But his thoughts faded as she walked passed him. A sigh escaped his mouth as he took a step forward. It was just another day with more strange people appearing. That was how the story went. Without any news, he would seek out the lizard once more for another tall tale about the world they all resided in. It seemed he was the only one that knew more about Pandora than Kase-

"Hm?" He turned to the sound of her voice. It seemed his night wasn't going to be so simple after all. He dropped his hands to his side. There was no reason for him to take a battle stance. After all, he just had to think about it, and death would come down at his request. "That depends, do I know you?" he would say, offering his left hand to her in a greeting.

"You can call me Orion." he would introduce himself. A name, that was correct for once, but one only few knew were tied to the misshapen man.

Much to her relief, the cloaked figure acknowledged her presence or this would have become a truly embarrassing situation for her. Still, it would be way too soon to celebrate as she would soon come to find out. "That depends, do I know you?" The being responded with a question of his own. Bea would simply shrug non committedly. If that was the way he was going to be then she was in for one hell of a night. After all, it seemed he wasn't going to be straightforward and to the point as she thought. Yet, unlike what she imaged, he seemed more amiable than a snobby know-it-all.

"You can call me Orion." The man said as she took his offer and shook his hand with her own. The name did not ring a bell so she assumed herself to have been wrong. Perhaps she had over thought the whole idea and had missed the true source of panic that the Phoenix had felt towards. It made sense but, regardless, she still felt an aura of familiarity towards the man. That was, unless her mind was playing tricks on her as well. It was still in the realm of possibilities as the man didn't seem to recognize her either. Thus, she had to make the best of this now embarrassing situation.

As the man had introduced himself, she felt it only fitting to follow suite. After all, it would have been extremely rude of her if she simply had turned heel and left. Not that she had something against the stranger but, if the Phoenix had tried to force her to leave, then surely the source was still here. Still, it wouldn't have been too far off if the source had already left. After all, the Phoenix had remained quite thus far and the man clearly didn't know her. ”Beatrice d’Blakc,” she would say in turn. ”But you call me Bea for short.” She would later turn the conversation to something more social.

First, though, she felt the need to respond to his previous question as well. "As per your question, well, I don't really remember anything," she replied with yet another nonchalant shrug. "So I wouldn't know." She felt no need to lie so why would she? She just wouldn't tell him everything and that would be that. Her eyes would shift to the right for a split second before looking back at the stranger, well, Orion. "But, anyhow, are you a resident here?” Whether the conversation would continue, that would be up for debate. For now, though, she would keep her comments to a minimum before attempting to disappear once more.

    Aknaid

    [ Demon _ of  _Time ]

Mortals. Perhaps a name unfitting to use anymore. It was once used to refer to beings who had a limited lifespan, who were prone to age and decay after some time. Mortal beings, destined to die. The opposite of the immortals, the beings that were unable to die. But in Pandora, even mortals were granted the power to come back to life, and like a phoenix, they could rise from flames again, perhaps even stronger. So what made a mortal, a mortal in this realm? Was it their former life, or the lack of a power compared to the true deities of this world? Mortals. They were anyone that didn't know the secrets of the realm.

Their hands met in a greeting common, but one all too familiar. It wasn't until she spoke her name, that he knew it was much more than a stranger. As their grasp lessened he smiled from behind his mask, only to let out a chuckle as she continued to speak.

"Fitting." He would say to her. "Bea Blakc. And don't seem to remember. Ha." Surely times had changed. But as the tale of souls went, time didn't exist in this world. The question he now held, was if she was from a time so far forward, he was forgotten, or perhaps it was a version of her so young they hadn't met yet. Black hair. Strange presence in a city full of crime. She seemed to fit the bill of that vigilante. And with what he knew, it was time to see what was the same.

"Well, then my apologies. You perhaps only remember my other name, Aknaid. My given title." Aknaid, a shortened version of arachnid from his father, who could barely spell the word. Perhaps it was his mispronunciation, or simply his inability to spell. The reason for the chosen name, was anyone's guess. "I sure hope the names of Ramen, Yuna, and Kaseki ring a bell, or I'm certainly in for a long night." He laughed again, setting both of his hands on his waist, before slowly folding his hands on the small of his back.

"You could all me a resident. Though, I think the correct term is native. But, to each their own."

Oh how things were interesting. Either she was going to be lost in it all, trying to remember fragments, or she was lost to it, unknowing of the life that was before her. Which was it?

[P] The Calling Empty Re: [P] The Calling

    Post by PhoenixRises101 Sun May 19, 2019 8:58 am

Throughout her introduction, the man seemed to take on a different approach. He no longer seemed to treat her as a stranger but, rather, as someone he had known for quite some time. It seemed strange to her but, for now, she wouldn't question it. If he knew something about her, then she was all the more eager to hear it. After all, the Phoenix had refused to tell her anything about her previous life besides the fact she had made a contract. Of course she believed the being she housed, but she still had the need to know. Yet she knew the Phoenix would never tell her. So, if there was anything that the man knew, Bea was more than willing to listen even if she had no idea of who he was.

As the handshake drew to an end, he gave a chuckle in what seemed to be in a form of amusement. His next words, though, she felt as if it sounded a little off. Peculiar, so to speak. "Fitting." The cloaked man said to her. It seemed that he truly did know her. Perhaps, he really did. "Bea Blakc. And don't seem to remember." Beatrice frowned. Was he trying to start something? "Ha." For some reason, the last comment irked her slightly. Was he really trying to provoke her? Still, she remained quiet but, throughout her silence, she felt the Phoenix stir. It lurked as if it were waiting for something to happen. As to what it could be, she had no clue.

The man continued to speak. "Well, then my apologies," he would say. "You perhaps only remember my other name, Aknaid. My given title." At this, a pang shot through her causing a pounding ache to spread across her mind. Yet, besides the drumming of her skull, his name seemed to stir something deep within her. Respect was the first emotion she recognized followed by appreciation. As to the why, she had no idea. "Aknaid…" she would say; letting the name trail off. She could almost swear she knew the name but her memories would come back empty. Yet, searching for it would be placed on pause as her eyes glowed crimson.

As her eyes glowed, Bea clenched her fists as she fought back. The being resided back into her mind but it wasn't done. "It is time to leave," the Phoenix growled from within her mind as it had lost the opportunity to complete what it had set out to do. Yet, Bea refused to comply with the orders. She needed to know what the man had to say and she would do whatever it took to get the answers she wanted. Even if she did anger the Phoenix in the process. "I sure hope the names of Ramen, Yuna, and Kaseki ring a bell, or I'm certainly in for a long night." Aknaid continued in a familial manner.

The man laughed once more which caused the freedom fighter to look at him warily. The pounding in her head grew worse so much so that she had to press the her thumb at her temple to soothe the ache. She barely even noticed the movement of his hands as he folded them behind him almost expectantly. After all, she was more concentrated on why she felt this way. He obviously knew her but, no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't place the names or him anywhere. Heartache soon took over yet Bea tried to force those feelings down. Who were those people that made her feel the way she did? "No one important," The Phoenix would say from deep within her consciousness. "They were simply obstacles that prevented your true self from coming forth and nothing more."

Obstacles? There had to be more than that, right? "I'm afraid I don't know who any of them are," she would say despite the confusion of emotions that swirled about. "Although, perhaps, it's better this way." Did she believe it? No, but, perhaps, it was the right decision. She did form a contract with the Phoenix in exchange for her previous life. That meant she had given up on those she had come to known. She'd done that out of desperation, yes, but if they had been integral in her life, then she wouldn't have gone through with it, right? On the other hand, she had no recollection of anything anymore besides what the Phoenix had told her, but still...

"You could call me a resident. Though, I think the correct term is native. But, to each their own." Beatrice nodded in acknowledgement. It made sense although she was curious about the term he had used. Perhaps she could ask him another time. "Well," she would say with a tiny smile. "It's nice to meet you, Aknaid." She then gave a slight pause. "Or, rather, remeet you." She would give a slight nod in reassurance to herself before continuing. "And, well, if it isn't too much to ask, any chance you could tell me about myself?" If it was an odd request, well, she didn't care. All that mattered to her was that she had decided to take a leap of faith and trust the man, somewhat.

    Aknaid

    [ Demon _ of  _Time ]

Pandora was constructed after almost one million years. Those were the stories that were told. That was how long Kaseki found himself trapped in this world. But how long was it until he bore child? What of the lands before him? The Underworld? Hell? The Void? The Netherworld? Did any of it matter? Age was not his wisdom. In this world, a tree's knowledge was outclassed by a lizard and an insect in an armored suit. Pandora; Probably the only place in any universe where the sentence would actually make sense.

An echo of his name heard. She truly seemed to have lost a sense of herself. Perhaps his thoughts were true, or maybe it was all wrong. Maybe this world was wiped from her thoughts, but did she know of the child? He had to see if he could provoke the memories, or maybe she was simply better off not knowing. But the sight of her eyes changing colors, could only bring him a great deal of disappointment.

"So it is true, our blood taints those we touch." He thought to himself. With his father, it led to his mother's passing. To himself, his own bride descended. It seemed his own child was no different than they. The Manji bloodline that ran through them. Was the honorable deaths only a way to free themselves from their own pain of love?

Her hand lifted to her head, only to offer a bit of relief. What had happened to her? It was still her soul, surely. But was it the same body that bore the child? Was it really her inside of there? Or perhaps a game played by his sibling? No, that couldn't be. Nameless swore. Nameless single handedly took down their own empire to join the legion, and not only that, but offered aid. It was Aknaid that kept them distant. But perhaps their own fighting was a result of the same curse upon their name. No, she could not befall the torture he housed.

A smile was gifted to him, only followed by a further question of herself. She was truly lost. She wanted to know, or rather, to remember. But it was strange, to find her wandering Gotham, than Fiore.

"You were once a scientist, with some renown I would imagine." he would say, telling her what he could recall. "I think it was your intelligence that led that man to take an interest in you, to help in his own personal matters. But I suppose his carefree attitude doesn't have relevance in this tale, for now at least. " Ramen. A name even he had no idea how it came to be. Though, the reason for the surname, had always seemed strange to him. Was it Tenshioni's family name? or one of her own mind? "You were a fighter, I imagine you still are. The will of a phoenix. Not even flames would stop you."

In the sweat of you face shall you eat bread, until you return unto the ground; for out of it were you taken: for dust is art, and unto dust shall you return.

"You were once a scientist, with some renown I would imagine." The man, Aknaid, would say. He was right. That much she knew about herself but, then again, it seemed to her that this was common knowledge. For, if this was anything like the world she had originated from, then any form of advanced and accessible technology could easily give her identity away. Either that or the use of magic. Not that it mattered, though. This world was clearly different and, as her travels had led her to expect, not everything she had learned and studied were applicable here.

The man continued, "I think it was your intelligence that led that man to take an interest in you, to help in his own personal matters.” This commentary led to a disruption in the woman’s train of thought. It wasn’t what he said but, rather, how he said it that struck an interest in her. He had evaded naming the person but, for some reason, it appeared that he knew what he was talking about. Still, Bea had come to the conclusion that Aknaid was musing more to himself than to her.

Thus, the freedom fighter decided to remain quiet as the man continued. Yet, if the man would give relevance to his words, she had yet to know. All that Bea knew was that she could always ask questions afterwards. ”But I suppose his carefree attitude doesn't have relevance in this tale, for now at least." Bea shrugged nonchalantly. “Well,” she thought to herself. “That's that, then.” If the man deemed it unimportant to mention anything further regarding the ‘man,’ then she would not press.

"You were a fighter,” Aknaid seemed to muse. ”I imagine you still are.” Bea frowned ever so slightly. It was not that she didn’t agree with him rather than the fact that she was disappointed. Still, if there was anything that Bea had come to know, it was that Aknaid was confident. Yet, whether or not he had known her prior was not clear. He seemed to speak a lot about what she had been yet, to her, it resulted in nothing concrete. Still, had she expected anything more from the random stranger? Perhaps not but it had been worth a shot.

It wasn’t until he uttered his next words that Bea flinched and her assessment of him would change. ”The will of a phoenix,” The man would conclude, ”Not even flames would stop you." Upon hearing the this, Bea clenched her fists. Perhaps then, but now was different. ”Things are different now,” She would mutter resentfully as her eyes darted to her left. She believed him now as something deep within agreed with him. Yet, it was clear that he had known someone different.

Bea would turn her eyes back towards Aknaid. He told the truth and she knew it. Yet, now that she had savoured an inkling of her past, she wanted to be set free. Not of the Phoenix but of the previous life before her. By doing so, she believed, it would provide her with the opportunity to discover herself anew. After all, the old her was not the person she was now. That had been made abundantly clear. Therefore, by freeing herself of her past, then, and only then, could she progress forward and overcome the Phoenix in her own right.
It did not help that Bea had more questions yet she knew she could trust him somewhat. After all, she had gained the Phoenix’s approval once her decision had been made. Still, if that had been the being’s fear, she had no clue. All she knew was that it was now calm and she was free to talk with Aknaid without interruptions. ”Things have become a little clearer now,” Bea would say. ”Thank you.” She meant it. But, the question would remain of what to do next. She had yearned to know more about herself yet it had turned out she was fine being the way she was -unknowing of the life she had had.

Bea sighed. Perhaps Aknaid could provide relief to some of the burning questions she had. ”The only issue with all of this,” Bea would say. ”Is that I don’t know what my purpose is. Why am I here? Why now?” Had she been right in confiding with him? Maybe not. ”But I guess that doesn’t matter,” she would say in an effort to brush off her remarks. [color=#cc0000]”I guess the why’s don’t matter but the how’s… right?”/color]

    Aknaid

    [ Demon _ of  _Time ]

Pandora was a realm between realms. Every pocket world, every pocket universe was housed in this world, on the far edge where none walk. It's the place where the Viri watch over, seeing all of the many objects held away. Even if you held your endless bag, it had it's bottom in a place someone could reach. The valley of blades. All of the forgotten tools locked away in storage. Even if someone wanted to loot one of your relics, and knew where the valley was, there was no way for them to pass through. Not even Hades, nor Kaseki would be able to travel.

Aknaid knew far more than he would ever admit. It was in his best interest to hide all of the cards he had. Rather than hi father who played with his hand open, Aknaid hid cards up his sleeves, as well as his betting chips. Ramen. What was he up to? And what would he make of the woman's return? Would it be wrong to not inform his son after his meeting that his wife, or rather, former? It was hard to decide, but a choice for him to discuss with himself after. He'd scoff at the thought, only to sit through.

In the world of Pandora, the players changed, not the game. It was the same pieces of the puzzle, but always assembled by different hands. Hel replaced by Anubis. Anubis replaced by Yama. Yama by Hades. Hades replaced by Kaseki. All different faces, all ruling the same realm. Their methods may have been the same, but the road taken was always the same steps. She may have been different now, the world might have been. But her destiny, her fate, was already set. She spoke. So the world was clear to her? Perhaps. but it was only the tip of an iceberg. Or as the saying goes, it is but one leaf of a tall tree whose roots reach the core. In Pandora, it seemed as if tree sayings were the most accurate.

"In Pandora, it doesn't matter how, where, or why." He would let out a small and short laugh. "The what will happen to you, no matter how old, young, alive or dead you are. I can't answer what your purpose is, but I suggest seeking The Lizard, that, or any of the names I already told you." He would sigh, "I don't know if you're content with what you know now, or wish to live a life untethered. Whatever you choose, you need to make peace with the life you once had, will have, or will walk away from." He would give a slight bow as his fists balled up behind his back. It was a bit frustrating, but it was out of his hands. "Besides, I'd consider it rude if I said your husband didn't miss you."

If the man paid her questions any mind, Bea would soon find out. "In Pandora, it doesn't matter how, where, or why," he would say. At this, the man would give a small, short laugh. "The what will happen to you, no matter how old, young, alive or dead you are.” Bea gave a slight nod. It made sense and, if there was anything she was getting out of this conversation, it was that she should stop overcomplicating things. Not long after, a warm sensation spread which she could only take as a form of approval from the Phoenix. She sighed as the man continued. ”I can't answer what your purpose is, but I suggest seeking The Lizard, that, or any of the names I already told you." Bea tilted her head, confused. The lizard? Yet, before she could ask him to further elaborate, it seemed as if he had noticed her change of heart.

"I don't know if you're content with what you know now, or wish to live a life untethered," the man continued. "Whatever you choose, you need to make peace with the life you once had, will have, or will walk away from." Bea gave a slight shrug. It made sense but what was the point? She could not return to being the person she was in the past. Nor could she form regrets around things that she could not remember. So why lament over the things that could have been? All she knew was that the life she led up to this point was in the now. Decisions were made so she could not see the point in wishing for the life she had given up. She stuck to her ideals. Now, it no longer mattered to her why she had done it. In fact, she understood why the Phoenix had tried to keep it from her. On one had, it would have satiated her hunger yet, on the other hand, it could have clouded her judgment.

As Bea reminisced, she barely grasped when and why the man had bowed. It wasn’t until he uttered his next words that Bea would lose composure. "Besides, I'd consider it rude if I said your husband didn't miss you." At this, Bea's mind froze completely. Wait, what?! "H-husband?!" she would cry out as he voice rose octaves higher. She could only be grateful that she hadn’t choked. "I don't have one." Her face burned red in embarrassment, unknowing of what to do. Slight irritation would soon wash over her as she averted her eyes in frustration. Surely he was joking. He did know that she had lost her memories, after all. So what prohibited him from fabricating something only to turn out that it had been a joke. Well, she, for one, wasn't having it.

Having made the call, Bea would eye the man sternly. ”And, besides, how would you know?” She could only assume he was joking. Either that, or he was delusional. After all, wouldn’t she know if she had or was married? ”Just leave, child.” the Phoenix would say in an attempt to persuade her. ”Clearly something is wrong with this specimen.” Bea couldn’t help but agree yet she couldn’t bring herself to leave just yet. She knew she had much to learn and, regardless of what she thought now, she couldn’t just overlook that he was familiar to her. He knew her and she had understood that. Did she trust him? Well, that was something entirely different. It was still too early to tell, after all, and she was in no hurry to permit herself to trust anyone. It was the life she lived and she was fine with that. All she needed from the man, Aknaid, though, was information and that would be that.

    Aknaid

    [ Demon _ of  _Time ]

A dangerous game. The most dangerous game to play with anyone with the Manji blood, was a game of questions. A game of asking of right and wrong. It never ended the way you expected. Someone you expected to be your ally, to support you, could easily warp into someone twisted, seeking to end your life. This time was no different. The son of the mad ruler danced around his own truth, telling his own story without even mentioning himself. She never asked of him, so why should he answer a question unasked? He would only answer the questions before him. Only those words right in front of him. He would not lead the woman onto a path she herself wished not to travel on.

"But you do." He would answer to her objection. It was the truth. But if she was from the past, then he was not yet given such a title in her timeline. But if she was future's past, the present, then it was a life she needed to make peace with, for not herself, but those around her. It matted not if she did not remember. There was a million threads holding her back, and they were not so simple to just cut off. Such a move would make them lash out, harming her in a way her body would never heal. The deepest kinds of cuts.

"Anyone that knows you, knows." He would say. "You didn't just marry a man. You married the grandson of this realm's ruler. In short, you married into a family of gods." He would let out a laugh again. "As I said, whatever life you want to live, you must first make peace with your past, wither you remember or not. Because it will follow you. In Pandora, it always does." He would nod, almost bowing at the words. It was questions of the man named Ramen. A family that named themselves with a first name and a title. None were given a true surname. A blank void meant to be filled with their forgotten true name.

    Ramen "Fighter" Manji
    Lukas "Orion" Manji
    Yukirochisu "Huashimamasume" Manji

It didn't matter what they were named. But it was by her will, that a child was born, and given a new name in place of her mother and father's.

Seikatsu. The word for life. For it was with her, a new life was born.

It seemed that her inability to stay composed did not affect the man in the least. In fact, he simply reassured her that he was not lying. "But you do," Aknaid or, as per his namesake, Orion seemed to insist. "Anyone that knows you, knows." Bea frowned. But, then, how could that be? Sure, Bea understood the complications of reincarnation. The Phoenix had explained it to her and would constantly remind her of what it meant. Yet, as far as she knew, there was no way the Phoenix would bring her back to a place she had living family in. Let alone a husband. Complications would arise and, perhaps, when all was said and done, that would have been the Phoenix’s fear. The fear that she would have been blinded by her previous life and eventually would disregard the contract she had formed. Regardless, though, Bea could not believe it.

The conversation would take a stranger turn as the man continued. "You didn't just marry a man. You married the grandson of this realm's ruler.” The freedom fighter raised an eyebrow. Now, she knew that it was a lie as it would have been impossible for her to have married into a royal family. After all, Bea loathed structured establishments that oppressed its people and, if there was a ‘ruler’, that meant that a monarchy was in place. ”In short, you married into a family of gods." At this, the freedom fighter let out an incredulous scoff. Was this man serious? ”Told you,” the Phoenix muttered. ”That man is a lunatic.” Bea couldn’t help but agree. Yet, Orion seemed to brush her off as he continued with a laugh. "As I said, whatever life you want to live, you must first make peace with your past, wither you remember or not. Because it will follow you. In Pandora, it always does."

The freedom fighter narrowed her eyes. He certainly believed what he was saying. She unexplainably understood it as well and, yet, she could not bring herself to believe him. She could not deny, though, that he was right about making peace. But, if worse came to worst, what would she do then? If she had given up that life then it could have been for a reason, right? She needed answers. ”Then,” Bea would ask. ”Who are you?” If he was so knowledgeable about her then he would need to confirm how he knew. Otherwise, this had been a grand waste of time. ”What was your relation to me?” Had he been a friend? A comrade or, perhaps, a confidant? One thing was for certain, though, was that she needed to justify the familiarity.

    Aknaid

    [ Demon _ of  _Time ]

Life. It was a funny word that left a funny taste in his mouth. Normality. Average. All were words that didn't seem to apply to his bloodline at all, starting with his grandparents, both biological and in premise. It wasn't like Death himself was any less strange than Hades or the other deities. But to even consider his grandfather and grandmother was mad, wasn't at all comforting in regards to his own mental state.

This was the land of the dead. It was not hell nor heaven, for they did not truly exist. There was only the mortal world, and purgatory, now named Pandora. It was Hel's shared domain with Satan that made a personal hell for people. A realm not far from the Underworld. A place far beyond the Netherealm. Everyone here was dead. Everyone ended up here eventually. It didn't matter if that bird intended to or not. This world always had it's hold on you.

It wasn't long until the question he feared was finally asked of him. But he knew better. Telling her the truth, was to make him look mad. She would never believe him. Surely saying so would make her laugh at his words. If he lied, it would weave distrust, and perhaps sow the seeds of a heated betrayal. No, he knew what he had to do. He had to tell the truth.

"You were once my student of sorts. Perhaps pupil is a more accurate word." he spoke, careful where his words were landing. "I am Aknaid, Leader of the Legion of Neutrals. It was our duty to keep the peace of this world, for good or bad. You were once one of my greatest allies, until one day, you were around no longer." He spoke. It was all he could possibly do. It was all he could possibly say.

". . . Though, I can't imagine you remember taking down The Agency, much less setting it to flames." A singular lie in a sea of unbelievable truths. The Agency was set aflame and to explosions than none other than Nameless herself. But what was he to make of telling a fighter of freedom that they had liberated an entire laboratory? Surely it would do some good. "You don't have to believe me, there are dozens of others that knew you better than I did. But they will tell you the same tale, but in greater detail."

[P] The Calling Empty Re: [P] The Calling

The more she asked, the more she felt as if the answers she was being given were structured in a way to force her to question everything. Not that she minded one way or another but it was slowly beginning to irritate her. Especially as she fully didn’t trust the man and it did seem that it was all deliberate. Still, she could not deny that her questions were being answered but all would be taken with a grain of salt. With the most important question now asked, she waited for his answer. "You were once my student of sorts,” Orion would say. ”Perhaps pupil is a more accurate word." Bea would cross her arms as she shifted her weight. Perhaps her demeanor would seemed standoffish but she didn’t mind. In fact, she would have preferred it to come off as such. With her eyes slowly narrowing, she would take her time to study his demeanor and actions.

The next part of his answer was brief but straight to the point. Had he believed her in that she was the person she claimed to be? It wasn’t a lie by any means but he had certainly been quick to dish out his answers. "I am Aknaid, Leader of the Legion of Neutrals.” Bea rose an eyebrow. ”It was our duty to keep the peace of this world, for good or bad.” Peace-making? Bea fought back a scoff. What good was the organization if the world was forever wrapped in chaos and destruction. Certainly the organization was no longer around, or was it? ”You were once one of my greatest allies, until one day, you were around no longer." Bea shrugged. That apparently was the way her life was, she supposed. To appear, disappear, and reappear. It was the will of the Phoenix, after all.

". . . Though, I can't imagine you remember taking down The Agency, much less setting it to flames." At this, Bea’s expression soon became unreadable. The gears in her mind turned as she focused on those words. It most definitely seemed like something she would have been a part of but there seemed to be no recollection of it in her databanks nor did it hold any familiarity. Aknaid continued, "You don't have to believe me, there are dozens of others that knew you better than I did. But they will tell you the same tale, but in greater detail." Bea sighed. ”I supposed,” she would say. ”But it seems that it will be something for some other day.” Her eyes shifted towards the nighttime sky.before looking back at Aknaid. ”Well, it’s been a pleasure,” she would conclude before bowing formally.

She would soon move as if she were leaving but, before she fully turned her back towards the figure, she looked at him earnestly. ”Should you ever find yourself around these parts again or in Era, let me know.” As to why she had extended the invitation, she had no clue. Perhaps, in some part, she believed him. But, it was too soon to tell. Right now, even if just maybe, she would find an ally in him just as she had been his in another life. ”It’s sort of like my homebase.” she would shrug. Having said that, she walked away as she lifted a hand in adieu. She was grateful for the time but, as of now, she needed to sort her head together. After all, she had a purpose and a goal to complete. After that, the world would be hers to do as she wished.

    Aknaid

    [ Demon _ of  _Time ]

The more that confronted him, the more that saw the leader of the legion as a threat, the better he saw fit. He demanded others to question themselves, to question everything. Peace was a strange choice of words. They didn't actually fight for peace, they fought for balance. The brightest light, only makes shadows even more dark. It was creating a world of various shades of gray.

Her eyes seemed to dance between the world around her, and the husk of a man before her. What was she thinking? Was she questioning his words? She should. It was healthier that way. But who would be the next to dance words around her? But she spoke, and to which, he offered a nod.

"If you have any more questions, or require my aid, perhaps me, or the Shiba will be able to assist you." And with her words, a wave was cast she walked away.

But it wasn't like if he came to help, she could ask him anything. What good was talking to Fetus?
