Richard soared through the Taalos Trees, weaving in and out between the trunks of the enormous trees. Most birds would deign to simply soar above the canopy, taking the easy path, but not Richard; he wanted to see this world from the perspective of every animal, even filthy humans. From his vantage point, he felt like one of the monkeys; moving from tree to tree, living happily. Some never even touched the ground. By approximating their point of view, Richard could better understand the ideas and opinions of his subjects, and thus lead them more accurately and confidently.
Of course, that wasn't the only reason he was on the move. Richard had heard rumors of a town beyond this forest, one where the inhabitants used bizarre powers. Most of them were humans; that meant that Richard had to gauge them, to know whether or not they were a threat to his sovereignty. He would arrive, do some reconnaissance work, and if necessary, attempt to eliminate a few humans.
As the trees began getting thinner, Richard prepared himself for the upcoming task.
