Today, Emerald had decided she needed some human money. Normally, she didn't do this. And when she said didn't do this, she meant she really didn't do this. Gems had no need for eating, or sleeping, so she didn't need money to pay for anything. But.... she had heard that if you did missions like this, you could get information. Plus, Emerald thought it was fun. Human things were always such interesting ways of entertainment, for her. Because of her age, she had plenty of history and experience. But because of her recent revival, she was still getting used to her new body. So this was the perfect exercise to practice with it! See how much she could do! Well, maybe not this mission in particular. A more battle-focused mission would be better for something like training her new body. But nonetheless, it sounded fun.
Entering the restaurant, she was surprised to find it run down, torn up, and lacking many customers. Two employees sat at the cash register, one tapping it with a bored expression. Emerald blinked in surprise, and approached with curiosity. They looked surprised to see her, and quickly straightened up, as if they still had some pride.
"Um, hello," said Emerald, as she examined the walls of the building, "I'm here because I got a flier saying you needed some help with the building?" the two employees nodded tiredly. One, a tall, blonde man, asked, "Yea, we may not look like it right now, but we were once the biggest business here. Now we're running out of customers. Hey, might I ask what your name is?"
"Emerald," she replied. The two men exchanged hurried conversation, before they nodded at her, and took her to the back room, where a slender, important-looking, red-headed woman sat, writing taxes, and tapping her head thoughtfully, yet frustratingly. She appeared pretty stressed. from what Emerald could tell. When she looked up, she let out a sigh.
"'Ey, you must be Emerald. Well, welcome to Lion's Mane Cafe. As you can see. we're running out of business. I hired you to help us thing of new and extravogent ideas to get the business booming," said the woman, twirling a pencil, "Think you've got what it takes?" When Emerald nodded fiercely, the woman threw her a name tag. "Then congratulations, you've got the job. Just don't mess up. I won't hesitate to fire you. Now get."
Emerald smiled, and walked into the other room, holding the name tag. She had a good feeling about this.
