Today, Emerald had decided she needed some human money. Normally, she didn't do this. And when she said didn't do this, she meant she really didn't do this. Gems had no need for eating, or sleeping, so she didn't need money to pay for anything. But.... she had heard that if you did missions like this, you could get information. Plus, Emerald thought it was fun. Human things were always such interesting ways of entertainment, for her. Because of her age, she had plenty of history and experience. But because of her recent revival, she was still getting used to her new body. So this was the perfect exercise to practice with it! See how much she could do! Well, maybe not this mission in particular. A more battle-focused mission would be better for something like training her new body. But nonetheless, it sounded fun.

Entering the restaurant, she was surprised to find it run down, torn up, and lacking many customers. Two employees sat at the cash register, one tapping it with a bored expression. Emerald blinked in surprise, and approached with curiosity. They looked surprised to see her, and quickly straightened up, as if they still had some pride.

"Um, hello," said Emerald, as she examined the walls of the building, "I'm here because I got a flier saying you needed some help with the building?" the two employees nodded tiredly. One, a tall, blonde man, asked, "Yea, we may not look like it right now, but we were once the biggest business here. Now we're running out of customers. Hey, might I ask what your name is?"

"Emerald," she replied. The two men exchanged hurried conversation, before they nodded at her, and took her to the back room, where a slender, important-looking, red-headed woman sat, writing taxes, and tapping her head thoughtfully, yet frustratingly. She appeared pretty stressed. from what Emerald could tell. When she looked up, she let out a sigh.

"'Ey, you must be Emerald. Well, welcome to Lion's Mane Cafe. As you can see. we're running out of business. I hired you to help us thing of new and extravogent ideas to get the business booming," said the woman, twirling a pencil, "Think you've got what it takes?" When Emerald nodded fiercely, the woman threw her a name tag. "Then congratulations, you've got the job. Just don't mess up. I won't hesitate to fire you. Now get."

Emerald smiled, and walked into the other room, holding the name tag. She had a good feeling about this.

Walking over to the wall, she held her hand up to her chin, thinking. These walls needed to be a little brighter in color, she thought. Young humans were usually attracted by bright colors, or so she had learned. At least, Steven was, anyway. Perhaps she could make the walls sparkle, like the gems of fellow teammates. She smiled, and told the other employees what she was thinking with the walls. They nodded slowly, and started arguing among themselves. Emerald suggested a bright peridot color, but another employee said that might come off as ugly, and suggested a darker, lime color. When Emerald took a second look at the style of the room, she agreed.

Then, Emerald was lead to the kitchen, where she was taught how to prepare burgers, and other meals. Because she had been trapped in her gem for so long, and because she never needed to eat, she was practically learning for the first time, which was embaressing, but she got a hold of it after the first sandwich.

Picking up the meat, she prepared to make more sandwiches, as requested by a few customers. While she did this, she hummed to herself, finding the human activity to be very de-stressing. Amethyst didn't know what she was talking about when she said activities like these were boring and too much work. Of course, Emerald herself wouldn't eat it. She didn't exactly like human foods. She found them.... unpleasant. Which was another thing she and Amethyst didn't agree on. Oh well. You couldn't make everyone happy.

Once done with the burger, she handed it to one of the employees who was passing out food, only to be pulled to the side by another employee. They asked if there was anything to do to help promote business. Emerald thought, and suggested fliers, with catchy slogans.

And so that was what Emerald and the brown-haired employee, Smith, set out to do, creating fliers, then giving them to delivery boys to staple to light posts, and things.

Generally, many might dismiss Emerald as incompetent, naive, and an airhead. And while yes, Emerald was a bit naive, she was still quite intelligent. After all, many emeralds were skilled generals back where she had come from. She was built to be a warrior, a power unrivaled by many. But yet she had forsaken that life, left it behind in exchange for something richer. Something she felt could fulfill her more. Doing the same job for eternity would begin to dry your patience, after all.

And that was why, despite how mundane and demeaning this job seemed, even despite Emerald's background, she still put her heart and soul into it. Why? Because it was her rebellion. Her freedom. Against a caged society locked in never ending struggle and redundancy. She gladly accepted the jobs her superiors offered her, but only because they were new. Exciting. Something she'd never done before. And she wanted to learn all she could about these new things that had existed outside of her struggle.

After they had finished printing out the fliers, the boss came back in, announcing that they had some more customers, and that Emerald would be expected to work as a waiter for a bit. For a moment, Emerald was a bit confused. What exactly was a waiter? A person who waits? What were they waiting for?

Nonetheless, despite Emerald's ignorance, she simply shrugged it off. Her boss would no doubt explain the job to her once they got to where they needed to be. Emerald followed her boss to the front of the building, passing through a set of doors that led to where the restaurant and dining was.

Once they got to the front, her boss introduced her to a man named Marco. "Emerald, this is Marco. He will be helping you out as a waiter. Showing you the ropes, and what to do," her boss explained. Emerald nodded, reaching out a hand to greet the stranger she'd be working with.

"Pleasure to meet you. Name's Emerald." she said.

Her coworker, Marco, would start to guide her around, showing her what to do and how to wait on others. He'd let her sit in and watch him as he did it. Emerald listened, watching as he would take the orders of the customers. He listed off various specials, and the like. After a while of doing this, the man asked her if she would be interested in trying it herself.

Emerald thought for a moment, and then she nodded. He guided her to a table, where she introduced herself, asking if she could take their order. They each replied with their drinks first. Emerald wrote them down, and nodded, saying she would be back right away. She then went to the kitchen to relay the order.
